Indago Development is excited to announce that their ‘New Entrant: Social Care’ course, which supports individuals starting a career in social care, has been CPD Accredited reinforcing their commitment to strengthening the sector through more confident, better-prepared international care professionals.
Bhavin Tailor, Indago’s Director of Education and Programmes, was invited as a speaker at the recent Devon Care Homes Collaborative (DCHC) annual conference and shared that, “this programme is a stepping stone into a career in social care – a sector that plays a pivotal role in supporting our communities. With growing workforce pressures and shifting government regulations, we believe this kind of investment in people is more vital than ever.”
Powered by a Multi-Disciplinary Team
This, along with many of other programmes, is shaped and delivered by a team with diverse experience across sectors. This brings a richness of perspective that strengthens its relevance and impact. Bhavin who is also a Trustee for a Multi-Academy Trust brings strategic leadership and vision to the learning journey to the team. Meaghan Ryder-Green, Indago Development’s Research and Development Lead with an MSc in Psychology in Education, blends research insights with practical delivery.
Jason Carder, Indago Development’s Social Care Trainer and Coach, with over 30 years of hands-on sector experience, supported the development of the course, ensuring it reflects the realities of care work. Jason believes that “creating meaningful training starts with people who truly understand the sector.”
Together, they bring unique perspectives that ensure this course is relevant and grounded in real practice, helping new teams build the skills and confidence to support the individuals in their care. It also gives the care provider the assurance that their team is developing in-house, reducing reliance on agency staff and supporting a more stable, consistent home environment for everyone.
About the Course
The course is split into two key parts:
1. E-Learning: covering all 15 Care Certificate Standards – from safeguarding to communication, health & safety to mental health awareness.
2. Online Classrooms: an eight-week programme, including practical English for the care sector, cultural adaptation and real-world knowledge like the daily life of a UK care home and the power of clear communication.
This dual approach ensures learners are not only knowledgeable, but they are confident and prepared to deliver compassionate, quality care from day one. By building core skills and sector understanding early, the course also supports the foundations of a well-led care home, where a team will feel confident, capable and ready to meet the everyday demands of the role.
Why This Matters
According to a Skills for Care report, the number of filled social care posts dropped by 1% in 2022-23, marking the first decrease on record – a shortfall only mitigated by a surge in international recruits. 105,000 international recruits joined social care in 2023/24, reflecting the sector’s growing reliance on overseas workers.
However, with the UK Government now requiring care homes to prove they can recruit domestically before hiring overseas workers, the sector faces fresh uncertainty. Despite efforts, the number of British nationals working in care has fallen by around 70,000 in two years [linca.org.uk], with many put off by low pay and tough conditions. International recruitment has filled some gaps, but domestic interest remains low.
Overseas care professionals are here, they are essential, and they deserve support and training to deliver excellent care to our vulnerable adults.
Indago’s Vision
Indago Development simplifies the complex. We turn knowledge into action, all aimed at training and upskilling, whether for individuals, teams or whole organisations.
That said, we’re not just delivering training. We’re empowering people to thrive and in doing so, we’re transforming the social fabric of the communities we serve.
If you have international team members who could benefit from building confidence in care practices, communication or UK-specific expectations, even if they’re not new to the sector, we’d encourage you to reach out. We can tailor the course to suit your needs, including offering just the four-week English Language and Culture module for those already familiar with the 15 Care Certificate Standards.
With CPD Accreditation, this course offers recognised, structured learning that supports individual development and provider confidence. We're happy to share details about upcoming online classroom dates and how the course can support your team.
